I-bike-SPb

I-bike-SPb

I-bike-SPb (or People, Cycles and Saint-Petersburg in Russian) in a non-commercial project - simply a series of photos of people and their bikes. In our city cycling is still perceived as something sub-cultural and sportive. Our purpose is to show that riding a bicycle is not just a sport or leisure activity, but also an important mean of transport.

I-bike-SPb in a non-commercial project - simply a series of photos of people and their bikes, showing that riding a bicycle is not just a sport or leisure activity, but also an important mean of transport.

Majority of the people in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, use bicycles only for sport activities. Some of them ride in the city, but mostly in the parks for leisure in the evenings and on weekends.

About 15 volunteers around the city take the photos of a people with the bikes, trying to find the most stylishly dressed and fashioned ones, though it is quite hard. Moreover, we believe that only considerable number of cyclists in the normal everyday dress can make the other people do the same and the Government start to develop bicycle infrastructure.
When taking photo, we always ask two questions: (1) why do you ride a bicycle? And (2) What is missing in St. Petersburg to make cycling more convenient?

The photos and answers to the questions are published inVk.com – most popular social network in Russia, in special community devoted to the Project “I-bike-SPb” and the larger community “Velosipedization of Saint-Petersburg” and also at the web-site.
