Cargobikes are bicycles with a loading platform or space, which can be used to transport bulky, heavy goods. Cargobikes can replace a small city-car. For short distances, they provide a climate-friendly, healthy and cheaper alternative to the automobile.
The site is multilingual (English and German so far) and works on the Google Maps based search world and street level. Meanwhile, about 100 bikes are registered. Most in Germany and Austria, but also users from the U.S. or the UK, Sweden and Australia are willing to share their load-vehicles. The use of the service is free. The site is not a commercial rental-service itself, but an ad-free platform for sharing. Conditions for lending, a description and pictures of the bike can be uploaded, comments and a rating can be posted for every bike to build up reputation and trust.
