Mais Amor Menos Motor: Mobility and Bicycle Culture in Rio de Janeiro - Labour of Course Conclusion (Environmental Management Specialization) – Escola Politécnica, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e Instituto Brasil PNUMA, Rio de Janeiro, 2012.

The bike reappeared amid a movement of resuming the streets and public spaces colonized by cars. It gained new status in the post-industrial society, to assume a role in the quest for quality of life in cities, and their inhabitants are disengaging from the social stigma of yesterday.

Since the dawn of bicycles, their use is imbued with values and stigmas, today it is seen as one of the leading flags of "sustainability" and the policy of incentive to their use is closely linked to policies to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Using documented analysis and conversations with actors involved, I developed my monography with the objective of taking readers to reflect on their mobility by bicycle in the city of Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the appreciation of the bicycle as a human propulsion vehicle and its contribution to urban mobility, sector of fundamental importance to economic growth, social development and environmental preservation.

Presenting along its development a brief compilation of the presence and importance of cycling in cities throughout. History and a description of municipal policies and actions which deal the theme of mobility by bicycle in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In this sense, the study sought to tell the story of the bicycle and its influence on RJ society and show their close relationship with the debate and environmental concerns as from the meeting and organization of facts and important dates.
