Cycling Visionaries Awards - Project Details

Bike Pour-Trait

Bike Pour-Trait it's a project that I started few years ago (2011) with the support of Portocala Mecanica (an internet platform promoting the bicycle culture). This project brings out the stories behind bikes and bikers in more or less than 1000 words. From bike enthusiasts to the passionate custom frame builders and painters every bike has its story and I am out there to discover them.

The portrait. According to the definition by Paul Paul Almasy in the paperwork "Le photojournalisme", the origin of the word "portrait" has its roots back in the XIIth century when the kings and nobles, wishing to leave their figures to posterity, would address themselves to the painters like this: "Faites un tableau pour immortaliser mes traits" - "Make a painting of me to immortalize my features.". This way "POUR TRAITS" became "portrait". According to the mentioned author, the portrait can be either artistic or functional. The artistic portrait emphasize the artistic aspects of the subject such as the light or the outfit, while in the functional portrait one has to render the personality of the painted subject. - Cojocaru Gheorghe, Fotoziaristica, Editura Fundatiei Romania de Maine, 2008.

Every bike has its story and photography allowed me to discover these wonderful people and share their stories.
