We are happy to announce that 60 Cycling Visionaries in total will be chosen. As announced, 30 prizes are given as “Voting Prizes”, and a further 30 “Vienna Jury Prizes” were added because of the massive response to the Cycling Visionaries Awards program.
We want to thank the international cycling community for placing more than 31,000 votes online to identify the most innovative and potentially useful ideas for urban cycling, worthy of winning the 30 Voting Prizes awarded in the context of the Cycling Visionaries Awards.
The Velo-city 2013 Management Team acted as a jury to select 30 submissions that would win one of the Vienna Jury Prizes handed over as part of the Cycling Visionaries Awards. The beneficiaries of the Vienna Jury Prizes will be announced on Thursday, 18 April 2013.

Critical masses, bicycle film festivals, alleycats, car-free-days & bikekitchens are growing worldwide, but systematic documentation is lacking. Velonautica TV tries to fill that gap by presenting projects, events, movements, crafts and all that has a positve attitude towards cycling.

Borracce di poesia – Water bottles of poetry – was born in 2007 combining two passions: urban cycling and rhymes. The poems, originally written in Italian, are spontaneous reflections by the project-creator who narrates the world from his saddle emphasising the cyclist’s point of view. The quatrains link the historical traditions of cycling to the modern role of bicycles in today’s urban mobility.

Beijing Mao Suit Run reminds the days when Beijing’s streets were ruled by bicycles. Riders dress in vintage Chinese style – preferably a ‘Mao Suit’ worn during the bicycle’s hey days in 70s and 80s – or, classic tweed. A new Chinese cycling culture emerges and fashion is well-established mainstream. Combined, they will grow cycling’s profile and re-visit positive memories of the bicycle.

„RAUMRADLER“ is a series of miniature paintings by Michaela Kirchknopf.
In this project I explore visual spaces and their limits and the relation between objects and shapes in space. I take the motive of a bike or biker out of its original context and confront it with visual space by using the technique of the collage. The small canvas is the field of experiment where I find infinite possibilities of space-constructions that contrast the figural shapes contained.

Aeolian Ride is an international event where public art meets cycling. Up to 100 riders sign up free online to meet and ride bicycles in sculptural costumes which inflate as they ride, transforming the landscape. The original ride was founded for adults and has now expanded to kids. Founded in 2004, by artist Jessica Findley, the ride has inflated 23 times in 18 cities around the world.

The objective of the project is to collectively create and perform a musical piece in the city, in which rhythms created by each participant will be mixed together as the bicycles circulate through the city.
A tone generator will be distributed and placed in the frames of 100 bicycles. The combination of rhythms and tones will create a melody ruled by the speed position of each of the bicycles.

“altbaukriterium” is a Series of Indoor Bicycleraces staged mainly at apartments in old buildings but also in Bars, Workshops or Basements, almost every cycleable indoorvenue.
Regular races consist of 2 heats, each 2 minutes, with one Rider on the track trying to do as many turns as possible. Touching walls or the Ground results in a 1 Lap penalty for each contact.
