We are happy to announce that 60 Cycling Visionaries in total will be chosen. As announced, 30 prizes are given as “Voting Prizes”, and a further 30 “Vienna Jury Prizes” were added because of the massive response to the Cycling Visionaries Awards program.
We want to thank the international cycling community for placing more than 31,000 votes online to identify the most innovative and potentially useful ideas for urban cycling, worthy of winning the 30 Voting Prizes awarded in the context of the Cycling Visionaries Awards.
The Velo-city 2013 Management Team acted as a jury to select 30 submissions that would win one of the Vienna Jury Prizes handed over as part of the Cycling Visionaries Awards. The beneficiaries of the Vienna Jury Prizes will be announced on Thursday, 18 April 2013.

Bicycle data is key to advancing our understanding and improvement of bicycling. Yet all too often, key data is not available, or has serious problems or limitations. Lack of data has been a “chicken and egg” problem, where funding does not even go so far as to study bicycling. The BICY project developed a rapid method of obtaining basic bicycle data which even volunteers can implement.

Since I make bicycles that sound the way you drive them, i made records from driving my way. Imagine all basic parts of a guitar mounted on a bike. Speed, spoke-tension and frame become part of the instrument. I can drive with my headphones on and listen to all mechanics and moving parts on my bike. iBike Boston uses bicycle mounted sensors to re-map the city based on experience of cycling. By mapping micro-topography and speed the project collects quantitative data on the experiential qualities of cycling. Every day, thousands of cargo bicycles circulate in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A survey was made to classify types of establishment, number of bicycle workers, amount of bicycles, deliveries per day and area covered. We quantified the benefits to the city in terms of emissions and outlined other benefits with recommendations for increasing cycling in general, and cargo bikes in particular.
